Visitors to Miller, South Dakota can step back in time at the McWhorter House Museum, Miller Railroad Depot, the centennial mural, Hand County Courthouse, Millerdale Huterite Colony, Midway Drive-In Theater (one of the last in the country), and Becks famous bottle collection at the Ree Heights grocery store.
Not to mention prairie dog towns, horse drawn rides, rodeos (National Rodeo champs, Billy and Robert Etbauer are from here), a working dude ranch, origional homesteads with barns and windmills still standing, a turn-of-the-century caboose, Rainbow Bridge, Chalktop Hill and a Spanish mission style church.
The Arikara and Woodland Indians left their evidences of passing through the area, including artifacts, buffalo kill sites, burial mounds and an ancient medicine wheel (the only one found east of the Missouri).
Also of interest, at the base of the Ree Hills just south of Ree Heights, is a hill-size natural buffalo outline formed by erosion (best viewed when the sun is in the western sky). While there, don't forget to ask the locals about the glowing graves.
In the winter time the Ree Hills are an awesome place to snomobile, sled, snowshoe, snoboard or cross country ski. In the summer they provide a great place to picnic, check out the wildflowers, hike around, hunt for rocks, mountain bike, fly kite (my brother used to hang glide here) , ride horse or just check out the local wildlife. Who knows? You might even find an arrowhead or a tipi ring. And for stargazers the view of the night sky from this area is absolutely out of this world. Speaking of "out of this world" you might want to check out some of Porters larger than life iron sculptures, just off of Main Street in Saint Lawrence, at the site of their creation.
